Birth Support
My goal is to help you feel confident, empowered, and informed throughout your pregnancy and birth. I believe that every woman has the right to a positive and empowering birth experience, and I am dedicated to helping you achieve that goal.
BY supporting you with evidence based information, practical and emotional help
The role of a birth doula is to provide emotional, physical, and informational support to pregnant people and their partners before, during, and after childbirth. A doula is not a medical professional, but rather a trained and experienced support person who works alongside the medical team to provide comprehensive care to the pregnant person and their partner/family.
Here are some specific ways that I can support you as your birth doula:
-
Emotional support: I aim to provide continuous emotional support throughout the time that you contract me, through your labor and birth, helping the pregnant person and their partner feel more calm, confident, and empowered.
-
Physical support: I can provide comfort measures such as massage, breathing techniques, and positioning to help the pregnant person cope with the physical demands of labor. I work with your birth partners closely, so that they feel confident in the ways that they support you.
-
Informational support: I provide evidence-based information about birth options, procedures, and interventions to help the pregnant person make informed decisions about their care and offer an in depth birth reference session to deep dive through your choices and decisions when it comes to your birth.
-
Advocacy: A doula helps the pregnant person and their partner communicate their wishes and preferences to the medical team, and advocates for their needs and desires throughout the birth process.
-
Postpartum support: I provide additional support in the early postpartum period, helping with breastfeeding, newborn care, and emotional adjustment to parenthood.
"Overall, my role of a birth doula is to provide individualised, compassionate support to help the pregnant person and their partner have the most positive possible birth experience. My packages that I offer are tailor made to you so if you have any questions, please do contact me."
Postnatal & Postpartum
As a postnatal doula, my role is to provide physical, emotional, and informational support to new parents and their families during the first few weeks after childbirth. This period can be challenging for new parents as they adjust to their new roles, recover from childbirth, and learn to care for their newborn.
Here are some ways that I can provide postnatal support as a doula:
-
Physical support: I can help the household tasks that can seem like a mountain when you are recovering from a birth and tired. A homemade meal or nutritious treats to nourish you, having your little one while you shower or rest or bringing in a shop so that you have one thing off your mind as you take in those moments of newborn. I can also provide guidance on postpartum recovery, including healing from childbirth and managing common postpartum symptoms.
-
Emotional support: It can be such a transition to life with a newborn and I can offer a listening ear, provide reassurance, and offer coping strategies for the emotional ups and downs that new parents may experience during the postpartum period. I can also help new parents bond with their newborn and adjust to their new roles as parents.
-
Informational support: I can provide evidence-based information on newborn care, including breastfeeding, sleep, and development, as well as resources for additional support as needed. I make it a priority to have post natal planning discussions before little one arrives so that you feel prepared and equipped for those weeks following the arrival of your little one.
-
Advocacy: I can help new parents communicate their needs and preferences to healthcare providers and family members, and advocate for their choices and preferences as they navigate this new chapter in their lives.
